Acoustic Wave Therapy for Erectile Dysfunction

ED Treatment without pills.

ED treatment with NO surgery, drugs, or needles

At some point in their lives, around one-third of men will experience erectile dysfunction (ED). The most common reason is low blood flow to the penis. Known as vasculogenic erectile dysfunction, the condition may make it impossible to obtain or sustain an erection.

The most common vasculogenic ED treatment is palliative care in the form of oral medications known as PDE5 inhibitors. (You probably know them by their brand names: Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra.) These medications do not cure ED, though. Rather, they improve blood flow to the penis for a finite amount of time.

There is a new treatment, though, that may actually cure ED. It’s called acoustic wave therapy.

What Is Acoustic Wave Therapy?

Acoustic wave therapy uses soundwaves to increase blood flow to the treatment area. Also known as shockwave therapy, the treatment has been used since the 1990s to treat kidney stones and soft tissue injuries like tendinitis.

Our certified health practitioner uses a wand-like device, placing it at strategic points in the treatment area. Gentle pulses flow from the device and into the targeted area, creating microtrauma that jumpstart your body’s natural healing processes. Acoustic wave therapy repairs blood vessels in and around the penis, making them stronger and improving blood flow.

Unlike oral medications, successful shockwave treatment allows men to achieve spontaneous erections. Most men enjoy the results of treatment for around 12 months.

Does Acoustic Wave Therapy Work for ED?

For most men, yes. At Southwest Family Medical we have seen consistent results. Clinical studies have shown that three-quarters of study participants saw marked improvement in their ability to sustain a spontaneous erection. In addition, patients who did not respond well to oral medications found success when they combined PDE5 inhibitors with shockwave therapy. Most patients experienced improved function for at least 12 months, with some men’s results lasting more than 2 years.

Long-term effects are still unknown. However, studies that date back to 2010 report no adverse side effects.
